Surrey Hills Challenge

Surrey Hills Challenge

In 2016, The Rutland Group launched a new and ambitious charitable running and walking event called the Surrey Hills Challenge (SHC), to assist the fundraising efforts of the Surrey Hills Trust Fund (SHTF). The Challenge offers six distances: The Ultra, a 60km run from Haslemere to Dorking along the Greensand Way; the Full, a 42km walk or run starting in Witley and finishing in Dorking and, to make the event accessible to all levels and fitness, has four more events called The One, The Five, The Ten and the Half - a 1km, 5km, 10km or 21km run or walk within Denbies in Dorking. The event is in its fifth year and attracts over 1,500 participants and 2,000 spectators.

The routes encompass some of the best views and historical monuments in Surrey.

“I ran the full and it is one of the best organised running events I’ve been to in the UK. The pre event communication was perfect: clear and not OTT. The logistics on the day were super helpful and the course was outstanding: beautiful, well-marked (but still natural) and had amazingly well stocked aid stations. Hurrah”

“One of those events that makes you fall in love with running all over again! Great trail, fantastic views, super friendly organisers, volunteers and fellow-runners! Can't wait for next year.”

“@surreyhillschallenge was INCREDIBLE. Hands down the most ridiculously challenging, breath-taking quad-calf-glute-grinding route I have ever done. To the amazing people I met, thank you for adding to the laughs. Loved it. THIS has to get on your bucket-list.”

“Great course, challenging with varied terrain and scenic. Friendly and well organised.”
