The Rutland Group founded Wings & Wheels in 2005 to celebrate the long history of British aviation and motoring associated with Dunsfold Park. The event was also a vehicle to promote the site’s business park, masterplan and assist the fundraising efforts of local charities.
Over 15 shows, Wings & Wheels showcased some of the finest civil and military aircraft displays in the UK and attracted between 25,000 and 40,000 visitors annually. At its peak, the Airshow sold out and was widely acclaimed as one of the most successful, innovative events in the country.
The in-house team managed full production of the event over 32 acres of build and included five-hour air displays, two-hour motoring demonstrations, management of 150 staff and volunteers, 100 retailers and attractions, 80 military vehicles and re-enactors and 400 Wheels Zone participants displaying classic and iconic vehicles.
Amongst the display attractions were the RAF Red Arrows, RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Spitfire, Lancaster, Hurricane), RAF Typhoon, RAF Chinook, The Tigers Parachute Display Team and Apache Attack Helicopter.
“Great day out today, amazing shows, fantastic set up, easy to park and no waiting around to get in. Very well organised - thank you one and all for a fantastic and memorable day.”
“Relaxed hospitality, delicious food and a brilliantly organised event contributed to our having a thoroughly enjoyable day.”
“I have seldom enjoyed working with organisers as friendly, yet professional and efficient, in 20 years of events work. The success and the faultless reputation that Wings & Wheels has achieved since 2005 is well deserved and can be entirely attributed to the team behind the scenes. We can’t wait to be back.”
